SCS PactorIIex Modem with PactorIII installed
We really recommend the
IIusb modem (see why on our information page) over the IIex
because of the BUILT-IN ability to control the
frequency of your radio (if your radio
has that ability - and we don't know of any made
today that do not) without any additional
hardware for your computer. Yes - frequency
control CAN be implemented with additional
computer hardware - but it gets more complex and
more of a "kludge" at very little, if
any, savings in
cost. Other then that, there is no practical
operational differences for our purposes. Basic
modem as it comes from SCS, with manual, cable
with connector on one end and bare wires on the
other for you to install connectors appropriate
for your radio. We test each modem to assure
proper operation, but unless it is purchased
with one of our cable and support kits - NO

NOT include the additional hardware and cables
for frequency control. Otherwise the same as
described above for the PactorIIpro. Also
includes one hour of technical support when
purchased with a modem from HF Radio On Board
(technical support for modems purchased
elsewhere is available for $115/hour - 1/2 hour
minimum). For most popular current production
radios that we support (Icom, Kenwood
(specify model at checkout), SEA, SGC
- please specify radio make and model at right). Similar kits for select
other radios available - e-mail for quote. |

Antenna Tuner RFI Kit
Please specify tuner make and model at right If
you check the installation recommendations on
the SailMail website, you will see that they
recommend installing a device called a Line
Isolator on the coax cable and two ferrite beads
on the control cable. This is already on your
radio if it was purchased from us. If it wasn't
purchased from us, it is a 99.99999% chance that
they are not installed. You need these to make
your system work properly. They greatly reduce
the amount of energy that the tuner cables carry
from the tuner back up to the radio when
transmitting. It is this energy that can drive
your computer crazy and make it do strange
things. The kit contains everything you need -
and no cutting of cables or soldering is
required. Please specify make and model tuner at
right. |

PactorIII yet? Get 3 - 5 times faster data

PactorIIex and late production PactorIIe (with

checkout, please provide the
LAST 16 Digits of
the modem serial number - located on the bottom
of the modem. If you don't have a bar code
serial number -PactorII (non-pro) and early
PactorIIe modems - you MUST return your modem to
us and have an electronic serial number
installed (an additional $140) in order for the
upgrade to be installed. After placing your

Mscan Meteo Weather Fax software
Mscan Meteo is just flat out the best and
easiest Weather Fax software I have ever used
(and I have used a lot of them. I still have in
my desk a copy of the first one I used from
about 20 years ago - v2.1 of a DOS program on a
5 1/4" 360K floppy). Because it is software, it
is marketed by my business associate Waypoint,
but you can also order from HF Radio On Board.
Works with either the sound card in your
computer OR any SCS PactorII series modem.
NOTE: Mscan Meteo DOES NOT
currently work in the sound card mode with
Windows Vista. While we have tested it with the
SCS-PTCusb modem and it did work, use with Windows Vista is not
supported by HF Radio On Board, Waypoint or
CombiTech (the manufacturer of the software).

USB to Serial
Adapter- Not needed for PTCII-usb Serial ports started disappearing
from laptop computers about 5 years ago. For the
past 2 years, it has been almost impossible to
find a laptop with a serial port. The moral of
this story? The SCS modem requires a serial port
connection on your computer , and unless your
laptop is pretty long in the tooth, chances are
it doesn't have one. How to tell? Look for a
connector the is "D-shaped" about 3/4" inch long
x 5/16" high with 9 PINS (a male connector)
officially called a DB-9 Male. You probably will
find a connector close to that description that
is a 15 pin FEMALE connector. But if you look
closely at your computer, there is probably an
icon that looks like a TV Screen above or below
the 15 pin connector - that is to connect an
external monitor and almost ALL laptops have
that connector. We are looking for a 9-pin MALE
connector that would have an icon something like
"IOIOI" above or below it. Don't find that? Then
you need a USB to Serial adapter (yes - your
computer has a USB port - probably at least 2 -
those starting appearing just before serial
ports, and printer ports for that matter,
started disappearing). We also include a ferrite
bead with the adapter because it is a good place
for RF energy from your radio to get into your
computer when you are trying to send e-mail.
Note: there are many
different makes of USB to Serial adapters out
there. We, and our customers, have found that
some work, some don't. These work, as opposed to
others - most notably ones from the national
electronics chain that claims to have the
answers to your questions and ones from a
company that starts with the letter B - that
don't seem to work. |

Technologies S SB 21-5 SSB Whip Antenna - the solution
for Power Boats, Multi-hulls and other sailboats
without conventional backstays. This
3-piece whip is finished in high quality gel

"The Works" M802 or M710 package, only 10' of
GTO-15 that is part of that package will be

Mounting Hardware for Whip
Stainless Steel Swivel Mount and reinforced
Nylon Upper Support Bracket. Normally - the

about 3' up from the base. It can be adopted to
other installations using stainless awning
fittings to make 2 struts to form a "tripod"
support - the base of the whip forming the third
leg. |

Sintered Bronze
Ground Plate Connect
these to the antenna tuner ONLY with the above
strap. We have been recommending 2 of these 3" x
12" x 3/8" plates (the single larger plate - 6"
x 18" is too large to conform to most hull
curvature - but can get it if you want it - $400) for
about 5 years now and have had no issues with
grounding. We are not saying other ground
systems won't work - it is just that we can't
tell you if it will or won't, and we can't tell
you how to install it. Two 5/16" bronze bolts
fasten the plates to the hull (4 bolts on the
large plate) and provide a connection point
inside the hull for the copper strap. We
recommend mounting one in front of the other as
close to the tuner as possible so that they will
remain in contact with sea-water. |

Ground Plate
connection kit We
kept getting calls asking exactly HOW these
plates were to be installed - in particular
about the grooved nylon washer that is provided
with the plates. We asked our supplier to
include a sheet with a diagram of how the plates
were to be installed. We asked our supplier to
include a sheet with a diagram of how the plates
were to be installed. We asked our supplier to
include a sheet with a diagram of how the plates
were to be installed. We asked our supplier to
include a sheet with a diagram of how the plates
were to be installed - again. Finally, we got
tired of asking and made the drawing our self.
When we did that, we realized there were
additional items needed to properly connect the
strap to the plates that were not included - so
we made up this kit. Enough for two plates (or
one of the 6" x 18" plates). |

Stock and Custom
Length Coaxial
Cable Assembly Constructed from Highest
Quality Low Loss Cable available. Smaller - .24"
- 40% smaller then RG-8U. Weighs 1/3 the weight
of RG-8U (RG-8U weighs .11# per foot!
That is a LOT of weight aloft in a masthead
antenna installation).
But only .2 DB more loss per 100' @ 150 MHz (VHF
Marine channels) then RG-8U - in other words - a
negligible difference.
Comes with special "bullet" connector on
both ends
(that will pass through a 3/8" opening)
that connect to the equipment using a special
low loss adapter. The PL259 connector is the
standard connector used for EVERY fixed mount
VHF & SSB and all VHF antennas. Available in stock lengths of
33', 50', 66' & 100' or a custom
length you specify. Also - you need to specify
connectors for each end. Note: Custom length cables are built to order
- please allow 14 days for delivery. Please
measure and order carefully. Because they are
built to order, once ordered, your order cannot
be canceled or changed unless the supplier

GTO-15 High
Voltage Insulated Wire
This is the wire that is used to connect the
antenna tuner to the backstay. At first glance,
it looks like coax, but it only has a single
conductor surrounded by 15,000 volt insulation
(the "15" in GTO-15) and a UV-resistant jacket.
Unlike coax - it has no metal shield or braid.
It connects to the tuner with a normal ring
terminal (provided with Icom tuners). We found
the easiest way to connect it to the backstay is
by stripping back about 2" of insulation and
clamping it with 2 small hose clamps. With
swaged-on insulators, it is best to connect to
the swage. You might also want to include a drip
loop - run the cable up the backstay an inch or
two then make a small loop and head back down -
this prevents water migrating down between the
jacket and the insulator (really - it happens).
Cover the connection with rigging tape. |
